The Microfinance Support Centre has today hosted a delegation of nine officials from the Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Lesotho led by the Commissioner of Cooperatives and Chairman of the Cooperative Development Fund.
According to sources, the engagement began with a detailed briefing on the Emyooga program by the Centre’s Senior Management Team, including the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, Head of the Emyooga Secretariat, and Head of Business Development Services.
"The delegation toured select Emyooga SACCOs across Kampala to gain firsthand insights into the program’s operational model and successes as experienced by beneficiaries," officials said.
The visit highlights the international recognition of the Emyooga model, with Lesotho expressing interest in applying lessons learned upon returning home.
The Emyooga initiative has achieved notable success through effective community mobilisation, establishment of multiple SACCOs, promotion of savings, enhanced governance, enterprise financing, value addition, and inter-institutional cooperation.
These measures have strengthened community engagement and contributed to the rapid growth and impact of the program.
By attracting international attention, the Emyooga initiative demonstrates Uganda’s leadership in fostering inclusive economic empowerment and sustainable development through innovative microfinance programs.
